Biogeosciences (BG) Special Issue

All authors of both oral and poster presentations, are invited to submit full papers to the Special Issue "Nitrogen and global change"  in the EGU Open Access Journal Biogeosciences (BG). The guest editors for this Special Issue are Mark Sutton, Gilles Billen, Pierre Cellier, Jan Willem Erisman, Arvin R. Mosier, Eiko Nemitz, Hans van Grinsven and Maren Voss.

This special issue will be open for initial submissions from 10th of April 2011 for a maximum of six months. Given typical delays in bringing papers to submission, we therefore strongly advise you to submit your papers well before 20 July 2011 as a working deadline. To manage paper flow, we would especially welcome papers to be submitted during April-June.

As you may know Biogeosciences, is an open access journal where papers are initially subjected to open review in Biogeosciences Discussions (initial screening review only). As an open access journal, page charges have to be paid once the manuscript is accepted for “Biogeosciences Discussions” (BGD). Subject to satisfactory full peer review, the paper would then be eventually published in Biogeosciences. One of the advantages of this system is that each paper is published as soon as it is accepted for BG, rather than waiting for all the special issue papers to be ready before publication. Full details can be found at:

Part A: General information

Overview

Nitrogen & Global Change brings together scientists, policy makers and other stakeholders to discuss the scientific progress on the role of nitrogen in global change and the relevance for policy makers. It will celebrate the launch of the European Nitrogen Assessment and scientific results of major European Nitrogen research programmes such as the EU 6th Framework project NitroEurope IP.

It is jointly organised with the ESF programme Nitrogen in Europe (NinE), COST Action 729, the Task Force on Reactive Nitrogen (TFRN) under the UNECE Convention of Long-Range Transboundary Air pollution, the European Centre of the International Nitrogen Initiative (INI) and is sponsored by the International Fertilizer Industry Association (IFA).

The event addresses key themes related to aspects of reactive nitrogen in the environment. In particular, the focus is on the role of nitrogen for:

·         Climate change

·         Food security

·         Energy security

·         Ecosystems and biodiversity

·         Human health

In addition to these, the overarching topic of Integrating Nitrogen in Science and Policy is addressed in the conference and workshop for policy stakeholders.
